Amid the Hindi-Marathi debate, and on her 50th birthday, Bollywood star Kajol found herself at the center of a small controversy, and the internet can’t stop talking about it.
The actress was honored with the Raj Kapoor Award at the Maharashtra State Film Awards 2025 in Mumbai on August 5. After receiving the award, she stopped to chat with reporters. A video from the event has since gone viral and is grabbing attention for more than just her big win.

In the clip, Kajol is seen switching smoothly between Marathi and English, thanking the government and the jury for the recognition. She called the award a “big deal” and looked clearly touched by the moment.
But things took a turn when a reporter asked her to repeat her statement in Hindi. Kajol, known for her quick wit, responded with a hint of sarcasm, saying, “Abhi main Hindi mein bolu?” (Now should I speak in Hindi too?) Then she added, “Jisko samajhna hai samajh lenge.” (Those who want to understand will figure it out.)
The comment has caused a stir online, with people divided over whether she was being rude or just keeping it real. Some fans praised her confidence and multilingual skills, saying she handled the situation like a pro. Others felt she could have simply answered in Hindi.
Kajol’s fans were quick to defend her online, with one commenting, “She speaks what she feels. That’s Kajol for you.” Others felt she should be more accommodating in press events.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Kajol recently appeared in Sarzameen, directed by Kayoze Irani. The film also starred Ibrahim Ali Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. She now has her hands full with her upcoming project, Maharani, an action-thriller directed by Charan Tej Uppalapati.
The film has an impressive cast, including Prabhu Deva, Naseeruddin Shah, Samyuktha (making her Hindi debut), Jisshu Sengupta, Aditya Seal, Pramod Pathak, and Chhaya Kadam. Though the release date hasn’t been announced yet, fans are excited to see Kajol in an intense role.
